Do you have an early bird in your house?
We sure do..he's up and ready to play, watch TV or
bug mom and dad anytime between 5:30am and 6:30am
at least 5 days a week..we get lucky now and then and
on some days he will sleep til about 6:45!
I repeat myself almost every morning..
" Its not time to get up, go back to bed! "
He has been learning to tell time, but he gets confused easy.
Even more so he hates the time change when the weather changes
because it gets even more confusing to him. We use to tell him
when its light out he is okay to get up, but that doesn't always work
and he needs a good nights sleep. I decided it was time to find him
a clock to practice with and that he can watch and know when its
okay to get up for the day. He has been better as far as not waking
us up every time, getting dressed for the day and going down stairs
to watch cartoons until the other kids and I get up at 7:00am but I
rather him not get up so super early just to watch TV. I was looking
at alarm clocks so we can set it and he would have to read books
quietly in his room until it went off.
I came across American Innovative and love their idea for the
"Teach me time" clock. I don't have to set an alarm that will wake
us all up, but can change the light to turn green when its okay for
him to be up for the day, it also teaches them how to tell time with
both an analog and a digital clock. You can show one at a time
or both so they can compare as they learn. Its been perfect for my
son when he isn't quite sure if he is getting the time right and he
can also push the button and have it tell it to him when he gets
the numbers turned around in his mind.
Here are the basic details of this awesome clock:
- Safety First. Teach Me Time! has been tested for lead paint content and has passed all related tests as defined by the ASTM F963-07 sec. 4.3.5.1 safety specification. Teach Me Time! is also CE certified and comes with a UL-listed (US models) or CE-listed (EU models) AC power adapter.
- Kid-Friendly Shape, Parent-Friendly Design. Kids love the shape! "Toe" buttons are fun to press. Large, friendly display with animal icons and clear, friendly female voice. Parents appreciate the function and form. Concealed "parental" control panel provides access to clock options and instructions. Interchangeable LCD bezels (blue, pink & yellow) provide options for any room decor.
- "Ok to Wake!" Dual-Color Nightlight Timer. The nightlight timer is easily programmed to turn on and off at any time of day. Parents can also customize an "Ok to wake!" time (when the glow color turns from yellow to green), an optional function.
- Teach Me Time! Talking, Interactive Game. Teach Me Time! is an educational, talking game that parents can play with their child. Difficulty level is adjustable as children learn. Full manual override provides complete control of the game by the parent, if desired.
- "Grown-Up" Alarm Clock. Teach Me Time!'s built-in alarm clock features a fun ding-a-ling wake-up sound and a 10-minute snooze function, just like mom & dad's!
- AC (wall current) with optional battery backup. Teach Me Time! runs on AC power using the included adapter. Time and alarm settings are retained automatically in the event of a power failure using two AAA batteries (not included).
- Other Flexible Options. Voice volume is adjustable (Off, Low, Medium, High), LCD backlight/nightlight brightness is also adjustable (Low, High). LCD display options allow parents to select analog (clock hands) display, digital clock (numeric) display or both together
(learning mode..ignore the dryer in the background LOL)
We also really like the feature that teaches the time, the clock
will talk to you, ask you what time you think it is, then you
can check your answer by pressing the button. Great teaching
tool for all my kids learning to tell time..they sat there forever
practicing their time. It made it fun and educational. The clock
has been so much fun to have this week and to watch my son
as he gets excited about learning to tell time and really try hard
at it..he has caught on so well already. I wish it also had the
option of the seconds as well, with the 5, 10, 15, 20, 25+
around the outside of the numbers, thats where he tends to get
confused the most I have noticed.
Its also been kind of funny. We had it plugged in downstairs the day
it arrived in the mail and the kids were practicing the time, that night
when he plugged it in his room I forgot to go set the time on it. The
next morning I heard him doing something in his room and called from
my room " what are you doing buddy?" and his reply was..
"watching the clock and waiting for it to go off." He had been up
for a little while and it was now 7:10 and he was sitting in front of the
clock waiting for the color to change or alarm to go off but it didn't.
So it worked..he stayed in his room (even when the clock said 10pm LOL)
and he has loved learning with it. We set it right the next night and as soon
as the color changed he was in my room grinning ear to ear..to cute!
The next night we set the alarm..must have been up and waiting..the
second it went off he hit the snooze button (instead of off) and
he was headed for the cartoons! Its been fun for him and I think
once it becomes not so exciting like a toy it will still be great to have
and help him know when its okay to start his day as he learns also
how to tell time even better. Then we will pass it on to the younger kids!
Definitely a great product, cool look and design and great
educational tool. Perfect gift for sure as well as many others
on their site, you can find something for everyone!

Very cool! Punk doesn't wake up with an alarm clock (I think she needs to learn how, but that's another story entirely) and this would be the perfect intro clock for her. It's cute!
ReplyDeleteHow neat! My 6 year old son would love this! he's learning how tell time now and this would be perfect!
