Clorox 2 Play 2 Day - In honor of Worldwide Day of Play

Sure, their clothes might get a little dirty. Its possible they may get a skinned knee.
That is the joy of being a child! Encourage them to take the time to have some fun
outside and run.

As a small child I remember growing up spending every free minute in the great
outdoors. In the mountains, the backyard, local park or at an empty field. We hated
when we saw the sun slowly going down because it meant it was time to go inside.
We loved the fresh air and being able to run and play. Exercise? Whats that.. we
just knew we were having fun!

Ipods, computers, Nintendo DS or other hand held games seem to take over the
adventures we use to create with our own imaginations. Where are all the tree houses,
forts and kids clubs like we made as kids? Do our children even know how to play
red rover, flag football and tag? When you stop and talk about it, you find many of
the kids in the current generations have no clue what you are talking about. Its sad.

At a recent family gathering the adults had just as much fun as the kids in a game
of red rover. Many laughs and great memories can be created when you choose
to get out and play!

We need to share our love of the great outdoors with our children. We need to take
that step and also put down the computers, phones, ipods and electronics that keep our lives and homes in a constant state of business and join them. I know I have gotten horrible at it lately.
Being on bed rest off and on most of my recent pregnancy, then having a newborn in the house I don't get out much. My life revolves around feeding, sleeping, diapering and keeping
up my blog. When I have time to get out and do something I feel to exhausted and drained to get off the couch and go. The energy I need from the sun and exercise is always awaiting me once I step outside the front door. I just need to do it. No excuses.

A trip to the park or splash pads are great excuses to get out and get moving.
I know my kids sure love it!
Gather kids in the neighborhood or friends from school and start a yearly
bike parade. Encourage safety and exercising in a fun way. Let them find
things around the house to decorate their bikes to make it a little more fun!
We have also spent the last month watching three of our children play in the city recreation
soccer games. I was so happy to see them running, laughing, smiling and having a great time while staying fit. In the back of my mind I kept telling myself I need to also get out there and join them so I can get back to where I need to be, to stay healthy, to loose weight and to get my
energy and motivation back.
This week in school my children are participating in the yearly jump-a-thon to earn money for their P.E. department. Each child in the school was given a jump rope and have been practicing at recess and at home. A pledge is made on the time frame they want to reach and the big day arrives with excitement and nervousness as they prepare to jump their hearts out with the rest of the school to reach their goals. Tomorrow is the big day. Parents are invited to come and watch the event. I think I might just join them. Why set on the sidelines just cheering when I can be a part of such a great event.

Some of our favorite fall family activities include hikes and roasting hot dogs
in the canyon. We love to enjoy the fresh air and nature around us. Its great family
bonding time as well as a great way to stay fit, get out and play!

What kind of outdoor activities do you and your family enjoy?
Take this week to get together as a family and plan some fun outdoor
events you can experience together..then get out and play!
